On March 30, 2026, Yotsukaido City, JGC Holdings Corporation (JGC HD), Revo International Inc., and SAFFAIRE SKY ENERGY LLC signed an agreement for "Cooperation and Collaboration on Promoting the Recycling of Waste Cooking Oil for the Construction of a Sustainable Society." This partnership marks Yotsukaido City's participation in the "Fry to Fly Project." The project targets an annual increase of approximately 10 tons in waste cooking oil collection, fostering further resource utilization and contributing to a decarbonized society. The agreement outlines key areas of cooperation: (1) collection of household waste cooking oil, (2) manufacturing of SAF using waste cooking oil, and (3) providing opportunities for broad dissemination of information regarding this recycling effort. Roles are defined as follows: Yotsukaido City will collect household waste cooking oil and actively promote the importance of SAF. JGC HD will lead the project. Revo International will collect and transport the waste cooking oil from the city. SAFFAIRE SKY ENERGY will manufacture SAF. SAF is a sustainable aviation fuel derived from non-fossil raw materials, significantly reducing CO2 emissions over its lifecycle compared to conventional jet fuel. The Japanese government is also advancing the strengthening of domestic SAF production systems. SAFFAIRE SKY ENERGY was established through a joint investment by JGC HD, Revo International, and Cosmo Oil Co., Ltd., and has commenced domestic large-scale SAF production and supply, marking Japan's first such large-scale operation. The "Fry to Fly Project," proposed and led by JGC HD, aims to realize a world where aircraft fly using SAF produced from domestic resources like waste cooking oil from homes and businesses.
