💬 Theme: "Fluorine-Free Water and Oil Repellent Treatment Technology - Surface Design Guidelines and Practical Examples for Improving Liquid Sliding Properties based on Wetting Fundamentals"
--As PFAS regulations accelerate, surface design that achieves water and oil repellency without fluorine is gaining attention. In this seminar, a leading researcher will systematically explain everything from the basics of wetting, dynamic wettability evaluation, design guidelines for improving sliding properties, to the latest examples of fluorine-free surface treatments.
📌 Participation Fee ・General: 44,000 JPY (tax included) ・E-mail Newsletter Subscribers: 39,600 JPY (tax included) ・Academic: 26,400 JPY (tax included)

🧠 A Q&A session will also be available. We encourage your participation to apply this knowledge to your research and work.
【Knowledge Gained from the Seminar】 ・Fundamental knowledge/theory of wettability ・Correct understanding of wettability evaluation techniques (static/dynamic contact angle, contact angle hysteresis, sliding/roll-off angle) ・Know-how for creating surfaces and interfaces with excellent fluorine-free water/oil repellency, anti-fouling, and non-adhesive properties
【Target Audience】 ・Individuals engaged in surface treatment and modification work ・Researchers and developers involved in imparting water/oil repellency, anti-fouling, and non-adhesive properties to various substrate surfaces ・Researchers and developers working on fluorine (PFAS) alternative technologies and fluorine-free surface treatment/modification technologies
1) Seminar Theme and Date Theme: Fluorine-Free Water and Oil Repellent Treatment Technology - Surface Design Guidelines and Practical Examples for Improving Liquid Sliding Properties based on Wetting Fundamentals Date: Tuesday, June 30, 2026, 13:30-16:30 Fee: 44,000 JPY (tax included) *Materials included * 39,600 JPY (tax included) for e-mail newsletter subscribers * 26,400 JPY (tax included) for academic pricing Lecturer: Dr. Atsushi Hozumi, Senior Principal Researcher, Multi-materials Research Institute, AIST
<Seminar Purpose> This seminar first aims to provide a fundamental understanding of solid surface wettability (water/oil repellency) and the practically important aspects of dynamic wettability (advancing/receding contact angle, contact angle hysteresis, sliding/roll-off angle). Next, it will introduce the latest domestic and international R&D trends in various surface treatment and modification technologies for controlling dynamic wettability. Furthermore, in light of legal regulations on long-chain perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) such as PFOA and PFOS, the speaker will provide a clear and detailed explanation of fluorine-free surface treatment and modification technologies using various functional thin films (monolayers, polymer thin films, sol-gel coatings, etc.) developed by the speaker's team, with practical examples.
*This seminar will be a live-streamed event using the video conferencing tool "Zoom." Please refer to the tool's specifications for the recommended environment. A URL for viewing will be sent separately by email at a later date. ★Recording, photography, etc., during the seminar are strictly prohibited.
