An 80-year-old Miaoli resident recounted the harrowing experience of his home being inundated by muddy water on April 4. The floodwaters reached thigh-high within minutes, causing significant damage to furniture and appliances. This was the most severe disaster he had experienced in his 70 years living in the traditional courtyard house. The floodwaters receded within three hours, but left behind mud stains and debris. Municipal cleaning crews have been working to clear the aftermath, with large machinery unable to access the narrow entrance of the courtyard house. Debris was concentrated in the courtyard and then transported away by grab trucks. Over five days, approximately 50 tons of waterlogged waste have been removed. The mayor urged residents to cooperate with cleanup efforts and report large waste items.
