The Taiwan stock market opened high and continued to rise today, surging nearly 1,300 points during the session to reach around 44,818 points. It closed up 731.43 points at 44,256.8 points, setting new historic highs for both intraday and closing levels. The trading volume reached NT$1.556844 trillion, a record high. MediaTek closed up more than 8%; TSMC rose NT$30 to close at NT$2,300, an increase of 1.32%; UMC, Winbond, and Innolux hit the daily limit.
