Taiwan Stocks Rise 731.43 Points

Central News Agency, Taipei, May 27. The Taipei stock market opened higher and continued to rise today, closing up 731.43 points at 44,256.80. The increase was 1.68%, with a trading volume of NT$1.556844 trillion. The weighted index opened at 43,842.26 points, with a high of 44,818.25 and a low of 43,842.26. The index excluding financial stocks was 40,225.54, up 652.58 points. Performance of the eight major sectors: cement/ceramics fell 0.08%, food fell 1.06%, plastics rose 1.23%, textiles fell 2.57%, machinery/electronics rose 1.80%, paper fell 1.12%, construction fell 0.02%, and finance rose 2.12%. Buy orders totaled 28.24 million, sell orders 22.29 million, and trading volume was 18.37 million contracts. At the close, 342 stocks rose, 681 fell, and 81 remained flat. The top five stocks by volume were Innolux, Active Uni-President 50, AUO, Winbond, and PSMC.
