The Chiayi County Government is promoting a low-carbon, sustainable city. Since the launch of the public bicycle service YouBike in July 2024, usage has exceeded 1.5 million. To expand the service footprint, 10 new stations will be officially opened in Xingang Township and Dalin Township on May 29. The Construction Department of the Chiayi County Government issued a press release today stating that since the launch of YouBike, 130 stations have been built in Taibao City, Puzi City, Shuishang Township, Zhongpu Township, and Minxiong Township, with 1,000 public bicycles deployed. The coverage mainly includes public transport stations, government agencies, schools, commercial areas, and densely populated residential areas. The Construction Department said that this expansion into the two major townships of Xingang and Dalin will make Chiayi County's public bicycle network more complete. The Construction Department pointed out that it will successively build YouBike stations in nine other townships, including Dongshi Township, Budai Township, Yizhu Township, Lucao Township, Xikou Township, Liujiao Township, Meishan Township, Zhuqi Township, and Fanlu Township, with about 100 stations in total. After all are completed, the county will evaluate whether to expand further based on usage. The Construction Department stated that to encourage the public to use low-carbon transport, YouBike 2.0 currently offers the first 30 minutes free, and YouBike 2.0E (electric assist bikes) offers the first 30 minutes for 10 NTD.
