The Japanese stock market saw the Nikkei index briefly surpass the 66,000-point mark during the session today, driven by a strong performance in US semiconductor stocks the previous day. However, as the market grew concerned about the short-term overheating of Japanese stocks, the gains were erased, and the index closed nearly flat. The Nikkei index rose slightly by 3.32 points, or 0.01%, to close at 64,999.41 points. The TOPIX index fell by 20.45 points, or 0.52%, to close at 3,918.01 points.
