The Criminal Investigation Division of the New Taipei City Police Department announced today that drug-impaired driving threatens road safety. From the 24th to the 26th, they launched the first phase of the 'Thunder Sweep' project, combining high-intensity road checks and investigations to comprehensively combat drug crimes. Police statistics show that in three days, they conducted 112 road checks and uncovered 130 cases of drug-impaired driving, averaging over 43 cases per day. In addition, they arrested 68 drug suspects, including 3 involved in manufacturing or packaging, 8 in selling, 1 in transferring, 2 in possession with intent to sell, and 54 in simple possession. Police noted that on the first night of the project, the Haishan Precinct stopped a man riding a motorcycle without headlights. Police Chief Fang Yang-ning stated that they will use NT$20 million from the second reserve fund to purchase more saliva test kits and cover testing costs to continue the crackdown.
