Central News Agency, Taipei, May 27. Regarding the bid by DPP legislator-at-large Lin Yue-chin to run for Miaoli Mayor, the DPP's election committee held a meeting today and concluded that Lin is an excellent and highly suitable candidate. However, according to party election regulations, the nomination of township mayors is handled by local party branches. Therefore, the committee decided to send a letter to the Miaoli County branch recommending that they nominate Lin Yue-chin for the Miaoli mayoral race.
Regarding the candidate for Hsinchu County Magistrate, attendees indicated that the election committee might meet again next week to discuss it. As for the Penghu County Magistrate election, there are still differing opinions at the local level.
Premier Cho Jung-tai revealed at a public event on the 3rd that Lin would be recruited to run for Miaoli Mayor, sparking heated discussion. Lin stated on the 4th that Miaoli has seen little change and needs a transformation. She added that Miaoli is a difficult district, and the more difficult it is, the more someone needs to take on the responsibility. If the local people need her expertise, she said, 'I will certainly not shirk the duty.' The DPP Miaoli County branch subsequently held a meeting and requested the party center to recruit Lin to run for Miaoli Mayor.
DPP spokesperson Wu Cheng explained after the meeting that the election committee unanimously agreed that Lin is a very excellent and suitable candidate for Miaoli Mayor. However, in accordance with the DPP's public official election regulations, the nomination of township mayors is handled by local branches, so the committee decided to recommend that the Miaoli County branch proceed with the nomination according to relevant regulations.
