Hualien DARES Introduces New Melon Variety 'Pelos', Boosting Yields by 6-10%

According to CNA, the Hualien DARES held a demonstration on open-field melon cultivation in Yilan County's Zhuangwei Township on the 27th, introducing the new variety 'Pelos'. This variety addresses recent production instability caused by abnormal weather, increasing yields by 6% to 10%. The Ministry of Agriculture stated that the station worked with local farmers to select a variety suitable for open-field production. Director Yang Da-ji noted that since 2024, 'Pelos' has outperformed traditional varieties like 'New Century' and 'Camila' in stability, appearance, and quality. Farmer Guan Han-mei praised the variety for its excellent adaptability to the plum rain season and high sugar content.
