(CNA) German star Alexander Zverev defeated an unwell Tomas Machac of the Czech Republic in straight sets today in the second round of the French Open, advancing to the next stage as he continues his pursuit of his first Grand Slam title. The 29-year-old Zverev, ranked world No. 3 and seeded second, won the night match on Court Philippe Chatrier 6-4, 6-2, 6-2. Zverev has yet to win a Grand Slam, with the French Open being his most successful stage; he has reached at least the quarterfinals for five consecutive years and lost to Spain's Carlos Alcaraz in the 2024 final. Zverev will face French player Quentin Halys on the 29th for a spot in the round of 16.
