Central News Agency, Taipei, May 28. Taiwanese tennis star Hsieh Su-wei competed in the mixed doubles at the French Open, teaming up with German player Mark Wallner to defeat the Slovenian-British pair of Andreja Klepac and Lloyd Glasspool in straight sets, successfully advancing to the Round of 16. Known as the "Queen of Doubles," Hsieh Su-wei holds nine Grand Slam doubles titles. In this French Open, she is competing in two events: the women's doubles with Chinese player Wang Xinyu, hoping to replicate their victory from three years ago, and the mixed doubles with 26-year-old German player Mark Wallner. This was Hsieh's first time partnering with Wallner, and they showed great momentum at the French Open. In the first round of mixed doubles, facing the pair of Andreja Klepac and Lloyd Glasspool, the "Taiwan-Germany coalition" broke serve in the fourth game of the first set and then steadily held their own service games, winning the first set 6-3. With the advantage, Hsieh and Wallner engaged in a fierce battle in the second set. Although they broke serve first, they immediately lost their own service game, leading to a 5-5 tie after 10 games. Fortunately, the "Taiwan-Germany coalition" seized another break opportunity and ultimately held off their opponents' counterattack, winning 7-5 to secure their spot in the Round of 16. Additionally, Taiwanese player Liang En-shuo teamed up with Japanese player Shuko Aoyama in the women's doubles, showing dominance in their first round with a 6-2, 6-3 victory. They will next challenge the fifth-seeded pair of Jelena Ostapenko from Latvia and Erin Routliffe from New Zealand.
