CK Hutchison's Panama port dispute remains unresolved; Wang Yi meets Panamanian FM to request protection of interests

Regarding the issue where the port concession rights held by Hong Kong's CK Hutchison group at both ends of the Panama Canal were ruled unconstitutional by the Panamanian Supreme Court, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Panamanian Foreign Minister Javier Martinez-Acha in New York. Wang urged the Panamanian side to effectively protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises. The Panamanian government took over the ports of Balboa and Cristobal in February, and they are currently being operated by Maersk and the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC). China expressed its desire to eliminate external interference and promote the stable development of bilateral relations.
