The Hsinchu District Prosecutors Office stated today that a soldier surnamed Song from the Army's 206th Brigade, while handling public works, inflated quantities and prices, violating the Anti-Corruption Act. After questioning, authorities determined that Song and a contractor surnamed Chen were heavily suspected of the crimes and posed a risk of collusion, leading to a request to the court for detention and incommunicado status. The Hsinchu District Prosecutors Office noted in a press release that the soldier and the contractor are suspected of profiteering, inflating project costs, bribery, document forgery, and violations of the Business Accounting Act. Prosecutor Gao Zhicheng directed the Investigation Bureau's Hsinchu County Station to execute searches at eight locations and summon seven individuals, including Song and the contractor, for questioning. Prosecutors stated that after questioning, Song and Chen were deemed to be under heavy suspicion of violating the Anti-Corruption Act and other crimes, prompting the request to the Hsinchu District Court for detention and incommunicado status. In response, the Sixth Army Corps stated that it would fully cooperate with the judicial investigation and continue to require officers at all levels to strengthen legal and disciplinary education to uphold the military's reputation.
