A flood control project in Hualien County's Mata'an Creek is underway, involving the construction of high-standard levees. The project requires the acquisition of approximately 40 hectares of private land, leading to concerns among local residents about the impact on the Jilitan scenic area and traditional Amis tribal sites. The Ninth River Management Office of the Water Resources Agency emphasized the urgent need for flood defense due to sediment accumulation. The office clarified that Jilitan is not within the construction zone and noted that over 60% of landowners have already accepted compensation. Construction is scheduled to begin in mid-June.
