Central News Agency, Taipei, May 28. The government is set to launch a growth subsidy for children aged 0 to 18, raising questions about whether children of Chinese spouses are eligible. The Executive Yuan stated that citizenship is the primary requirement, and other distribution methods will refer to existing childcare subsidy regulations. The Presidential Office announced 18 measures under the 'New Strategy for Taiwan's Population Policy—Family Support' yesterday. The growth subsidy provides NT$5,000 per month per person, split into two parts: full direct payment for ages 0-6, and half 'pre-deposited' and invested by the state for ages 6-18, with the government bearing risks and guaranteeing a minimum interest rate. Executive Yuan spokesperson Li Hui-chih explained that since some citizens may not have household registration, eligibility will be determined based on regulations during the operational setup. The Social and Family Affairs Administration of the Ministry of Health and Welfare added that eligibility for children from previous marriages of Chinese spouses will be referenced against current childcare subsidy rules, requiring household registration in Taiwan.
