Interior Minister Liu Shih-fang Rejects '30-Year Free Social Housing' Proposal, Citing Potential Displacement

Interior Minister Liu Shih-fang addressed low birth rate and housing policies today, stating that the government will promote 'marriage and child-rearing housing' by increasing floor area ratio incentives to expand social housing capacity, aiming to reach 70,000 units by 2027. Regarding the proposal by KMT caucus whip Fu Kun-chi to provide 30 years of free social housing for one child and lifetime housing for two, Liu responded that social housing serves a public interest and is for rent only, not sale. She argued that long-term occupancy would displace other families with housing needs. Additionally, Liu attended a seminar on mountain safety, noting that the rescue rate for mountain accidents in 2025 has reached 93%. With the summer travel season approaching, she urged hikers to strictly follow national park regulations, complete mountain entry registrations, and establish a 'stay-behind' contact system.
