Taiwan Stocks Surge 1,096.5 Points

The Taipei stock market opened higher and continued to climb today, closing up 1,096.5 points at 44,732.94, an increase of 2.51%. The turnover reached NT$1.81645 trillion. The weighted index opened at 43,815.48 points, with a session high of 44,933.95 and a low of 43,815.48. The index excluding financial stocks was 40,669.28, up 1,034.19 points. Performance of the eight major sectors: ceramics up 2.96%, food up 1.03%, plastics up 4.51%, textiles up 2.42%, machinery and electronics up 2.61%, paper up 0.24%, construction up 1.88%, and finance up 1.19%. Buy orders totaled 30.83 million shares, sell orders 23.12 million, and traded volume was 19.33 million shares. At the close, 812 stocks rose, 212 fell, and 81 remained flat. The top five stocks by volume were Innolux, PSMC, Compal, AUO, and Active Uni-Upgrade 50. Top gainers included Hankang-KY, Taisil, Momo, Acer, and Sinogreen. Top losers included Amulaire, JKO Brent Oil, Aiptek, Maike, and Longhwa.
