The Yilan District Prosecutors Office has cracked down on the first election gambling case of the year. A woman surnamed Kuo used an overseas blockchain prediction platform to bet on the winning results of political party seats in the year-end election using cryptocurrency. Prosecutors stated that Kuo knew that participating in election gambling would affect the fairness of the election and voting tendencies, but she still used the platform on December 5 last year. After learning of the case, the prosecutors launched an investigation. The prosecutors stated that Kuo's behavior violated the Public Officials Election and Recall Act and the Criminal Code regarding gambling. Considering she had no prior criminal record, acted out of curiosity, and admitted her mistake, the prosecutors granted her a deferred prosecution for one year. Kuo must pay NT$10,000 to the public treasury and attend a 6-hour legal education course.
