Amid investor optimism that the US and Iran will reach an agreement to extend a ceasefire, European stock markets closed mixed today. France reported that its economy contracted by 0.1% in the first quarter and inflation rose to 2.4% in May, while Germany reported that its inflation slowed to 2.6% in May. The London FTSE 100 index fell 16.68 points, or 0.16%, to close at 10,409.28. The Frankfurt DAX index rose 12.45 points, or 0.05%, to close at 25,104.70. The Paris CAC 40 index fell 5.53 points, or 0.07%, to close at 8,183.34.
