According to a report by CNA reporter Zheng Weizhen, a young child not wearing a helmet attempted to mount their grandmother's motorcycle in Fangyuan Township, Changhua County, around 5:00 PM on the 27th. It is suspected that the engine was still running, and the child accidentally touched the throttle, causing the motorcycle to surge forward. The child was subsequently run over by a garbage truck belonging to the Fangyuan Township Office and died. The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation. According to the Fangyuan Precinct of the Changhua County Police Bureau, the child was attempting to get on the motorcycle on Erxi Road, Fangyuan, when the incident occurred. While the grandmother was waiting for the child to mount, the child accidentally hit the throttle, causing the bike to lurch forward. Police stated that liability is still being determined and urged the public to always turn off their engines when parking or leaving their motorcycles. In a statement, the Fangyuan Township Office said it would not make further comments to avoid causing secondary trauma to the family. Staff were dispatched immediately to offer condolences, and the cleaning vehicle is covered by insurance. The office has provided a 100,000 TWD accidental death subsidy to the family and is assisting with follow-up arrangements.
