New St. Vincent Ambassador: Ties are a long-term interest; Taiwan need not worry

Kenton Chance, the new Ambassador of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines to Taiwan, who first came to Taiwan as a student 20 years ago, gave his first media interview to the Central News Agency after presenting his credentials to President Lai Ching-te on May 28th. Chance emphasized that the diplomatic ties between the two nations are based on long-term interests and that the people of Taiwan need not worry about the relationship. Chance, who earned a degree from Ming Chuan University, previously worked as a journalist and founded the online media outlet iWitness News. He stated that the current government in St. Vincent prioritizes 'economic diplomacy' and is seeking long-term partners like Taiwan to diversify and strengthen its economy. He specifically hopes to attract investment in sectors such as tourism and hospitality. Chance dismissed concerns about potential diplomatic shifts, noting that the new government has reaffirmed its commitment to Taiwan through concrete actions, including support at the World Health Assembly.
