MediaTek CEO Rick Tsai stated today that TSMC is a long-term, close foundry partner for MediaTek, and that it is a mutually beneficial relationship that will be maintained for the long term. However, as MediaTek is now a very large semiconductor company, it will also monitor and understand the capabilities and capacity of other foundries. MediaTek held its annual general meeting of shareholders today, where shareholders expressed interest in the supply of high-end chips over the next five years and the status of other foundries such as Intel. Tsai said that TSMC is a long-term, close partner, and MediaTek maintains the closest and best cooperation with TSMC from 12nm to 7nm, 6nm, 5nm, 4nm, 3nm, 2nm, and 1.4nm processes, as well as advanced packaging and advanced optical packaging (CPO). Tsai stated that the relationship between MediaTek and TSMC is a mutually beneficial long-term one, which MediaTek will continue to maintain well. He said that MediaTek is now a large semiconductor company and will long-term monitor and understand the capabilities and capacity of other foundries. However, TSMC remains MediaTek's most important and long-term partner. Regarding TSMC's recent adjustment of earnings distribution, which increased the proportion of investment in social sustainability and sparked backlash from employees, leading TSMC Chairman and CEO C.C. Wei to personally attend briefings to communicate with employees, shareholders expressed concern about MediaTek's management's care for employees. Tsai said he was not aware of the recent events at TSMC and it was not appropriate to comment. He noted that MediaTek values corporate social responsibility, has clear goals, and uses very efficient methods, which are highly approved by employees. In addition, MediaTek provides employees with a good working environment, development opportunities, and compensation.
