The Cleveland Guardians announced today that Taiwanese-descent outfielder Stuart Fairchild has been promoted to the major leagues. He fills the spot left by Steven Kwan, who was placed on the bereavement/family medical emergency list. Fairchild will have a 3-to-7-day window to showcase his skills. MLB rules allow players to take 3 to 7 days off for family reasons. This is Fairchild's first major league promotion this season, and he must make the most of this brief opportunity. The Guardians begin a three-game series at home against the Boston Red Sox today, followed by three games against the New York Yankees starting June 2. Fairchild, 30, joined the Guardians on a minor league contract and participated in spring training as a non-roster invitee. He also represented Taiwan in the World Baseball Classic (WBC), hitting a go-ahead home run against South Korea. He has been in good form in Triple-A this season, hitting 8 home runs in 40 games. Fairchild has a connection with current Guardians manager Stephen Vogt, as they were teammates on the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2021.
