Myanmar's President Min Aung Hlaing arrived in neighboring India today, marking his first foreign visit since taking office as a civilian leader. He is expected to hold talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. AFP reported that the former military chief will also meet with business representatives during his five-day visit to India. Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal expressed a 'warm welcome' and posted photos of Min Aung Hlaing arriving in the eastern state of Bihar on social media. The first stop of his visit will be the Buddhist holy site of Bodh Gaya, where the Buddha is believed to have attained enlightenment. Jaiswal stated, 'His visit reflects the deep religious, historical, and people-to-people ties that connect the two countries, while demonstrating the depth of ongoing cooperation.' The Ministry of External Affairs said Min Aung Hlaing will meet with PM Modi and President Droupadi Murmu in New Delhi on June 1, before traveling to the financial hub of Mumbai. According to Indian government data, bilateral trade between India and Myanmar is valued at $1.95 billion for 2025-2026.
