SoftBank to Invest 750 Billion Euros in France for AI Infrastructure

SoftBank Group founder Masayoshi Son revealed in an interview with French media that SoftBank will invest approximately 750 billion euros in France to build artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure. Of this, SoftBank plans to invest 45 billion euros by 2031 to build two AI data centers in northern France. Masayoshi Son told 'La Tribune Dimanche,' 'This will be the largest AI-related infrastructure investment in European history, totaling 750 billion euros.' This investment plan is expected to be officially announced on June 1 at the annual 'Choose France' business summit. The report states that the two data centers will be located in Le Bosquel and Dunkirk, with expected openings in 2028 and 2031, respectively, providing a combined computing power of over 5GW. Regarding the choice of France, Son said, 'France is an energy producer and exporter, which is absolutely decisive for AI infrastructure investment.' Reuters reported that this commitment in France further expands SoftBank's global efforts in AI infrastructure. SoftBank has already invested over $30 billion in OpenAI, holding an 11% stake. Since 2018, initiated by French President Emmanuel Macron, France has been actively attracting foreign investment through the 'Choose France' summit.
