Central News Agency, Taipei, May 31. Another mining accident has occurred in China. A collapse took place at a private illegal mine in Huize County, Yunnan Province, at 4:30 AM today. According to Xinhua News Agency, six people were trapped; five died after being sent to the hospital, and one was injured. Local authorities are handling the aftermath and investigating the cause. The illegal mine is located in a remote mountainous area in Baiwu Village, Nagu Town, Huize County. The report did not specify what mineral was being mined. Officials from Huize County and Qujing City dispatched emergency, public security, fire, health, and natural resources departments to the scene. Although all six were rescued, five died due to severe injuries. Prior to this, a coal mine explosion in Qinyuan County, Shanxi Province, on the 22nd killed at least 82 people, the worst mining disaster in China in 17 years.
