TAICHUNG (CNA) - Taichung police announced on Friday that they had arrested two Vietnamese nationals for acting as money mules for a fraud syndicate. The suspects were apprehended in the East District after police tracked them following reports of suspicious ATM withdrawals at a convenience store in Taiping District. Police seized NT$35,400 in cash and three mobile phones. Both individuals were overstaying their visas and claimed they were recruited into a messaging group by a fellow countryman to withdraw cash under instructions. The suspects have been referred to the Taichung District Prosecutors Office on charges of fraud, money laundering, and violations of the Immigration Act. Police are continuing to investigate the syndicate behind the operation.
