KEELUNG (CNA) - A man surnamed Wang in Keelung City allegedly killed his mother with a knife yesterday before jumping from the rooftop of their building. Both were pronounced dead after being rushed to the hospital. Prosecutors conducted an examination today, finding that the mother had suffered over 15 stab wounds to her head, left chest, and abdomen, resulting in traumatic pneumothorax, as well as multiple wounds on her arms, elbows, and wrists. Related sources stated that the unemployed Wang had frequently argued with his 59-year-old mother at home. Yesterday around 5 PM, while his mother was cooking dinner at their home on Mingde 2nd Road in Qidu District, Wang allegedly became dissatisfied that his mother had bought a coat for his older brother but not for him, leading to a verbal argument that escalated into a physical altercation. After the incident, Wang allegedly jumped from the 12th-floor rooftop of their building. His brother witnessed the incident and notified their father to rush home, but both mother and son were declared dead after being rushed to Keelung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital. Neighbors noted that the family of four had lived there for over a decade, and the parents were kind and always greeted neighbors. They were less familiar with the brothers, knowing only that Wang did not work while the older brother worked at a car repair shop with their father. They had never heard any arguments from the home and were shocked that a coat could lead to such a tragedy. Police are urging family members to communicate rationally when conflicts arise and to avoid using violence. They also encourage those experiencing emotional distress or psychological pressure to seek help and cherish life.
