A 39-year-old man surnamed Chiang, working for a gas company, crashed his truck into a parked car in Yuanlin City yesterday while under the influence of drugs. He was transporting 10 large gas cylinders at the time. Police found him in a daze, and saliva tests confirmed the use of amphetamines and etomidate. An e-cigarette containing etomidate was also found in the vehicle. Chiang has a history of drug-impaired driving and causing fatal accidents. The Changhua District Prosecutors Office requested preventive detention, but the court granted his release without bail. The prosecutors office announced it will appeal the decision. The office has formed a special team to strictly handle drug-impaired driving cases.
