To prevent drug-impaired driving by heavy vehicles, the Ligang Precinct of the Pingtung County Police Bureau conducted roadside inspections yesterday on major routes used by gravel trucks. Nearly 100 heavy vehicles were inspected, and no cases of drug-impaired driving were found. The police are committed to high-density, high-intensity enforcement to protect the safety of road users. The Ligang Precinct issued a press release today stating that there have been several recent multi-vehicle accidents caused by heavy vehicle drivers suspected of drug-impaired driving. As the northern Pingtung area is a major production site for gravel, to prevent traffic accidents involving heavy vehicles and to block drug-impaired driving, 24 police officers were mobilized yesterday to conduct high-intensity inspections on major routes such as the Yanpu section of Provincial Highway 27, the Ligang Jiuru section of Provincial Highway 3, and the Gaoshu Gaomei Bridge. The police explained that they inspected the demeanor of nearly 100 heavy vehicle drivers and found no signs of drug-impaired driving. They will continue to conduct high-density, high-intensity enforcement to comprehensively crack down on and deter drug-impaired driving. The Ligang Precinct emphasized that heavy vehicles have large bodies and long braking distances. If a driver's judgment and reaction time are impaired by drugs, the risk to traffic safety increases significantly. They urged transport operators to implement strict management of their drivers and warned drivers not to take chances or break the law, working together to maintain a safe and smooth traffic environment.
