The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China has decided to appoint Guan Zhiou, Minister of Natural Resources, as the Party Secretary of Hubei Province. Wang Zhonglin will no longer serve as Hubei Party Secretary, Standing Committee member, or committee member and will be assigned to another post. Guan is 56 years old this year, making him the youngest provincial party secretary in China currently. According to Xinhua News Agency, Guan was born in December 1969 and is an alternate member of the 20th Central Committee. He has previously served as a member of the Standing Committee of the Liaoning Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial Federation of Trade Unions, a member of the Standing Committee of the Shandong Provincial Party Committee and Head of the Publicity Department, a member of the Party Group of the Ministry of Natural Resources, and Party Secretary and Director of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration (National Park Administration). In December 2024, he became Party Secretary and Minister of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Chief Inspector of National Natural Resources. With this, Guan is currently the youngest provincial-level party secretary. At a provincial leadership meeting held in Hubei on the 30th, Guan stated that he would fully leverage Hubei's comparative advantages and strive to transform these advantages into a strong impetus for the development of the major economic province. Wang Zhonglin, who is being reassigned, previously served as Mayor of Jinan, Shandong, Standing Committee member of the Shandong Provincial Party Committee and Party Secretary of Jinan, Standing Committee member of the Hubei Provincial Party Committee and Party Secretary of Wuhan, and became Governor of Hubei in May 2021, and Hubei Party Secretary in December 2024.
