A wind turbine at the Mailiao wind farm in Yunlin County caught fire around noon on the 31st. Yunlin County fire department personnel rushed to the scene, but due to the height of the turbine, they were unable to extinguish the fire directly and could only maintain a safety perimeter. Taipower stated that the fire was likely caused by overheating of parts. The turbine had been in operation for 15 to 16 years, and officials believe mechanical aging combined with the hot weather may have contributed to the incident. Taipower immediately cut off power to the equipment, and the fire did not spread. Liao Cheng-yen, Director of the Yunlin County Construction Department, stated that the county government would report the incident to the Energy Administration of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and urge operators to strengthen inspections and maintenance.
