CNA, Taoyuan, June 1: Taoyuan Mayor Chang San-cheng attended the signing ceremony for a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Taoyuan Metro Corporation and Tokyo Monorail Co., Ltd. today. Chang stated that Japan's rail transport development is mature, and signing the MOU will help Taoyuan learn from Japanese experience to improve service quality, drive urban development, and promote tourism.
At the signing ceremony held in Dayuan District, Chang noted that Japan's rail transport meets international standards in punctuality, safety management, line development, and tourism marketing. Tokyo Monorail has been in operation for over 60 years; beyond its transport function, it has successfully built a tourism brand. With the Taoyuan Metro Green Line expected to begin operations by the end of the year and the network continuing to expand, the MOU will serve as a vital aid in refining operational management and passenger services.
Tokyo Monorail President Hisatsugu Miyata, speaking through an interpreter, pointed out that both the Taoyuan Airport MRT and Tokyo Monorail share the important mission of connecting international airports and serving commuters and tourists. They share similar missions in transport and tourism promotion. He expressed hope that through the MOU, Taiwan-Japan rail cooperation would be deepened to create mutual benefits.
Taoyuan Metro Corporation stated that the metro network is currently being planned and promoted, with construction and operational development expected to span several decades. In recent years, the company has actively expanded international cooperation, signing agreements with operators such as Nankai Electric Railway, Keisei Electric Railway, Hanshin Electric Railway, Korea Airport Railroad, and Singapore's SMRT. Through sharing operational experience and joint marketing, they aim to continuously enhance the international profile of the Taoyuan Airport MRT and create more opportunities for international exchange.
