CNA, Seoul, June 1st. Taiwanese author Yang Shuang-zi held a media roundtable in Seoul today. She hopes to help more people understand Taiwan through literature and noted that the 'Taiwanese sensibility' loved by Koreans is an excellent entry point for deeper understanding of Taiwan's diverse facets. Yang and translator Jin Ling won the International Booker Prize for their novel 'Taiwan Travelogue.' After returning from the UK, Yang began a series of activities in Seoul on May 28th. During the roundtable, Yang discussed that Taiwan is a complex and diverse country, ranging from ethnicity and language to religious beliefs. She expressed that it is a positive thing for Koreans to approach Taiwan through the friendly, cultural lens of 'Taiwanese sensibility.' She also highlighted that just as many Taiwanese learn about Korea through K-pop and dramas, literature can serve as a bridge for deeper cross-cultural understanding. She noted that while her book critiques Japanese colonialism, reader reactions vary significantly by region.
