The French government announced on the 1st that a tanker suspected of belonging to Russia's 'Shadow Fleet' was seized in the Atlantic yesterday. This is the latest action against vessels used by Russia to evade international sanctions. Nearly 600 ships are believed to be part of Russia's 'Shadow Fleet' under EU sanctions. President Macron stated that the tanker, named 'Tagor', was seized in international waters with the assistance of France, the UK, and other partners. The ship had departed from Murmansk, Russia. Macron stated that the vessel's evasion of sanctions and violation of maritime law to fund the war in Ukraine is unacceptable. There are 23 crew members on board, and the tanker is currently being escorted by the French Navy for further inspection.
