Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an discussed rental subsidies today, stating that while the central government previously covered the full cost (from 2022 to 2026), Taipei City's 40% share of the 4.7 billion NTD total—about 1.9 billion NTD—is a heavy burden. He has sent a letter to the central government requesting full funding. Tsai Chang-chan, Director of the National Land Management Agency, said yesterday that before 2021, rental subsidies were shared between central and local governments, and that after the revision of the Act Governing the Allocation of Government Revenues and Expenditures, local governments have more disposable revenue. KMT Taipei City Councilor Wu Shih-cheng questioned the city council, stating that the '0-18 years growth allowance' could cost Taipei 4-8 billion NTD, and that the funding sources are unclear. Chiang responded that the cost could be even higher, potentially reaching 10 billion NTD if local governments cover 40-50%. The city's Finance Bureau noted that while tax allocations have increased, other subsidies have been cut, limiting funds for welfare and construction. Chiang emphasized that the city is drafting next year's budget and hopes the central government will clarify the details and funding sources.
