Explosion at Hanwha Aerospace Factory in South Korea Leaves 5 Dead

According to CNA, an explosion occurred at a factory owned by South Korean defense firm Hanwha Aerospace in Daejeon on the 1st, leaving five people dead and two injured. The company stated that the accident took place on a rocket propellant production line. Reuters reported, citing fire officials, that one of the two survivors suffered severe burns. While the cause of the explosion is still under investigation, Hanwha Aerospace CEO Son Jae-il stated that it is believed the explosion occurred while workers were using water to clean explosive residues from rocket propellant manufacturing tools. 'We deeply apologize to the victims and their families,' Son said, promising full cooperation with the authorities. All casualties were Hanwha employees, including two temporary workers in their 20s. Following the news, Hanwha Aerospace's stock fell 2.8%, and shares of its parent company, Hanwha Corp, dropped 3.4%.
