(CNA, Taitung, June 2) The Taitung District Prosecutors Office raided a fraud ring's operation center and requested the detention of nine members. Initially, the court released all suspects without bail, citing their confession. The Taitung District Prosecutors Office filed an appeal, and yesterday, the court reversed its decision, ordering the detention and incommunicado status for eight members, while one suspect who failed to appear will be arrested. Prosecutor Chang Wei-hsin, leading the investigation on May 19, coordinated with the Taitung County Police and other agencies to raid a homestay in Luye Township, where they apprehended the suspects and seized criminal tools. The prosecutors argued that the nine suspects, including the ringleader surnamed Kuo, were involved in aggravated fraud and posed a flight risk. Although the court initially denied the detention request, public outcry led the Taiwan High Court Hualien Branch to revoke the decision and remand the case, resulting in the new detention order.
