Hong Kong Cardinal Stephen Chow Visits Sichuan, Acting as Bridge Between China and Vatican

According to the Hong Kong Economic Journal, with the anniversary of the June 4th incident approaching, Cardinal Stephen Chow of the Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong led a delegation to Sichuan Province, China, yesterday for a five-day visit. The trip is intended to demonstrate the sincerity of himself and the church in engaging with mainland China, acting as a bridge between the Vatican and Beijing. The delegation consists of about 20 members, including Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Ha. During the visit, they will meet with local patriotic church leaders and government representatives. Since taking office, Cardinal Chow has expressed a desire to serve as a bridge, and this visit is being closely watched as a barometer for China-Vatican relations.
