Central News Agency, Taipei, June 2. An Air Force T-34 trainer aircraft crashed during a simulated engine failure training mission, resulting in the deaths of two lieutenant colonel pilots. President Lai Ching-te expressed his deep sorrow and regret over the sudden tragedy, extending his sincerest condolences to the families of the two pilots on behalf of the nation. The President stated that he has ordered the Ministry of National Defense to form a special task force to investigate the cause of the crash as soon as possible to prevent similar incidents. He also emphasized the need to provide full support to the families and accord the two hero pilots the respect they deserve. The T-34 trainer (tail number 3414) from the Gangshan Air Base, piloted by Lieutenant Colonels Lu and Guo, crashed at the north end of the runway at 8:08 a.m. President Lai, attending the opening ceremony of COMPUTEX 2026, stated before the event that he was deeply saddened by the news.
