(CNA reporter Wang Bao-er, Taipei, June 3) The Taipei Fine Arts Museum (TFAM) announced today that renowned curator Cecilia Alemani, former Artistic Director of the Venice International Art Biennale, will serve as the curator for the 2027 Taipei Biennial. This will be Alemani's first curatorial project in Asia.
Alemani expressed through TFAM today that she is deeply honored to curate the 2027 Taipei Biennial, stating, "The Taipei Biennial has an extraordinary history of shaping contemporary art discourse. As my first curatorial project in Asia, I approach this opportunity with both excitement and humility."
Alemani noted that under the current global situation, platforms like the Taipei Biennial are even more urgent, serving as important spaces for creative thinking and cultural resilience, reminding people of the power of art to foster dialogue and discussion at critical historical moments.
Alemani has previously served as the curator of the Italian Pavilion at the 57th Venice International Art Biennale, and in 2018, she extended her curatorial reach to large-scale art fair city initiatives, serving as the Artistic Director of the inaugural 'Art Basel Cities: Buenos Aires'. In 2022, she served as the Artistic Director of the 59th Venice International Art Biennale, where her curated theme exhibition attracted over 800,000 visitors.
TFAM Director Li-Chen Lo said, "The Taipei Biennial has long been an important platform where global art trends intersect with Asia's unique historical and cultural landscape. We believe Cecilia Alemani's curatorial perspective will bring a deeply compelling exhibition framework that responds to the city's unique cultural context while allowing local audiences to engage in profound dialogue with key issues in global contemporary art."
