(CNA reporter Hsu Chih-wei, Taipei, 3rd) National Chengchi University (NCCU) is promoting an "ESG Cross-Disciplinary Internship Course," which matches students in teams to jointly undertake sustainability projects within companies. Through a mechanism of "core concepts, corporate visits, and faculty guidance," it deepens students' understanding of ESG issues.
NCCU issued a press release today stating that the NCCU Career Development Center, X Experimental College, and the Office of Sustainable Development jointly promoted the "ESG Cross-Disciplinary Internship Course," matching 23 students from different departments to participate in sustainability projects at leading companies.
NCCU President Lee Tsai-yen stated that in a rapidly changing era, universities must integrate different professional fields with social needs to cultivate talents with cross-disciplinary integration and a sustainability perspective. This allows classroom knowledge to not just stay in the classroom but to respond to contemporary social needs, which is NCCU's mission. He added that the industry perspective and practical experience accumulated by students through internships will become key nourishment for entering the workplace.
NCCU Dean of Student Affairs Tsai Yen-lung mentioned that unlike traditional individual internships, the biggest breakthrough of this course is matching students in "teams" to enter companies and jointly undertake sustainability projects. This design allows students to develop collaboration skills in a real corporate environment and enables companies to more fully understand how the younger generation views ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance).
Chairman Chu Chu-yuan of Eurody Sustainability Services Co., Ltd. pointed out that ESG should be deeply integrated with corporate core values, environmental protection, and social responsibility. He highly affirmed the important role universities play in cultivating sustainability talent and research, and looks forward to continuing industry-academia collaboration to help students connect with the industry front line early.
Hon Hai Precision Industry Chief Human Resources Officer Hsia Kuo-an, using Hon Hai's core values of "sharing, cooperation, and inclusion" as an example, stated that the internship course not only provides students with a venue to participate in corporate sustainability governance but also allows companies to gain a deeper understanding of how the new generation interprets sustainability. "With a vision comes a goal, with a goal comes a strategy," and with a strategy, excellent students and employees are needed to jointly build an ESG enterprise and give back to society.
Taking the Hon Hai Group's "ESG International Rating Strategy and Social Impact Digital Optimization Project" as an example, students from NCCU's Department of Advertising, Department of Journalism, and Graduate Institute of Technology Management and Intellectual Property approached corporate sustainability governance issues from the perspectives of digital communication, public opinion analysis, and DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) systems, transforming what they learned in the classroom into practical solutions.
