Organizers announced on Monday that British retired football superstar David Beckham will be immortalized with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Actor Tom Cruise will attend the star unveiling ceremony. According to AFP, Victoria Beckham, the former Spice Girls singer turned fashion designer, will also attend the ceremony on June 12 to witness the unveiling of her husband's star. The ceremony will take place just hours before the kickoff of the FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico from June 11 to July 19. Ana Martinez of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce stated, "Beckham receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the sports entertainment category is timely, as the United States prepares to host the FIFA World Cup." She added, "Beckham has played a key role in raising the visibility of football in the United States and continues to influence sports, entertainment, and global culture, making this honor particularly meaningful." Beckham, 51, is a former captain of the England national team and played for Manchester United, Real Madrid, AC Milan, LA Galaxy, and Paris Saint-Germain before retiring in 2013. In recent years, he has become a co-owner of Inter Miami CF in Major League Soccer (MLS). The team signed Argentine star Lionel Messi and won the MLS Cup last year. Beckham was knighted by King Charles III last year. He has also ventured into the entertainment industry, co-founding the content production company Studio 99 in 2019.
