Hongkongers in Taiwan Hold Tiananmen Candlelight Vigil; Xu Baidi: CCP Is Brutal and Unforgivable

(Taipei, June 4, CNA) A candlelight vigil for the Tiananmen crackdown was held today by Hongkongers in Taiwan. Former Hong Kong district councilor and chairman of the Chinese Charity Taiwan-Hong Kong Integration Association, Xu Baidi, stated in his speech, "The CCP's brutality has reached a point where heaven and earth cannot tolerate it. We must call for 'eliminate the CCP, reverse the verdict on Tiananmen, liberate Hong Kong, liberate all of China.'"

Today marks the 37th anniversary of the Tiananmen crackdown. The vigil was held in the evening at 228 Peace Park, where multiple candle displays were set up. Despite the rain, about 60 to 70 people attended, creating a solemn atmosphere.

Xu delivered his entire speech in Cantonese, saying, "37 years ago, a magnificent democratic movement, a movement that could have allowed the Chinese people to become masters of their own destiny, was suppressed by the Chinese Communist Party, causing countless casualties under Tiananmen. With grief and indignation, I deeply mourn the victims of Tiananmen and the courageous individuals who sacrificed their lives for democracy and freedom 37 years ago."

Xu continued, "Since then, the CCP has never stopped pursuing and persecuting the people. The people of Hong Kong inherited the torch of democracy from the mainland, exposing the truth and resisting tyranny with fearless spirit. Social movements have continued for decades. The candlelight at Victoria Park is the most beautiful and sincere scene in the world, the spiritual home of democracy activists on the mainland, and a bond as close as lips and teeth."

He stated, "The bloody suppression by the CCP has shown the world the true nature of the Communist Party. It is no coincidence that the communist regimes in the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe fell due to the global third wave of democratization. This proves that the CCP's brutality is intolerable."

Xu said, "In the past, we dared not shout 'eliminate the CCP.' But today, the CCP's actions are too destructive. As the 'March of the Volunteers' says, 'The Chinese nation has reached its most dangerous time.' The CCP has destroyed Hong Kong, a model of modern civilization, turning its people into prisoners and building the world's largest spiritual prison to erode people's independent will through enslavement."

He pointed out, "What is frightening is that the CCP parasitizes the 'Chinese' body while devouring the 'Chinese' carrier like a virus. Even more terrifying is that it may trigger a final decisive battle in the world, which would be unthinkable. Therefore, we have reason to shout: 'Eliminate the CCP, reverse the verdict on Tiananmen, liberate Hong Kong, liberate all of China, the spirit of the Tiananmen martyrs lives on!'"
