(Central News Agency reporter Su Muchun, Taichung, 4th) A night shift security guard in Taichung suddenly experienced chest tightness that worsened while on his way to work. He was diagnosed with acute myocardial infarction and, after emergency treatment, was successfully discharged. Doctors remind the public that if they experience chest tightness, they should not endure it or delay seeking medical attention, so as not to miss the golden treatment window.
Taichung Armed Forces General Hospital held a health education press conference today. The medical team and the 74-year-old male patient involved in the case attended. The hospital also held a "Pre-hospital Emergency Medical Rescue Case Exchange Conference," inviting the Third Disaster Rescue and Relief Brigade of the Taichung City Fire Bureau and its subordinate teams to exchange ideas, aiming to deepen cooperation between pre-hospital care and in-hospital medical treatment.
Cardiologist Dr. Gan Chengzheng stated that the patient had been working night shifts as a security guard for a long time, with an irregular schedule, placing him in a high-risk group for acute cardiovascular events. On the day of the incident, the patient suddenly felt chest tightness on his way to work. The symptoms persistently worsened and became unbearable. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance. Upon arrival, the emergency team immediately performed an ECG, which revealed acute myocardial infarction complicated by ventricular tachycardia. An emergency cardiac catheterization was initiated to secure the golden treatment window.
Dr. Gan explained that during the cardiac catheterization, a thrombus was found blocking the left circumflex artery, causing the acute myocardial infarction. After thrombus aspiration and injection of anti-thrombotic drugs, arterial blood flow was successfully restored. During his hospital stay, the patient experienced acute delirium, which gradually improved with care, and he was eventually discharged and returned home.
Dr. Gan reminded the public that acute myocardial infarction often occurs suddenly. Those who are elderly, have irregular routines, work long hours, experience high life stress, or have chronic diseases should be especially vigilant. If symptoms such as chest tightness, chest pain, cold sweats, shortness of breath, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, or unexplained weakness occur, they should immediately call 119 or seek medical attention as soon as possible. Do not endure the symptoms or delay seeking treatment, so as not to miss the golden treatment window. (Editor: Zhang Mingkun) 1150604
