The Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) held a 'Drone Evaluation Body Launch Conference' today, announcing the signing of a Green UAS authorization evaluation and service agreement with the US-based Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI). This makes ITRI a third-party recognized evaluation body for AUVSI in Taiwan and part of the US 'Green Unmanned Aircraft Systems (Green UAS)' program. Additionally, ITRI signed a Green UAS testing cooperation memorandum of understanding (MOU) with AIDC, formally initiating cooperation on Green UAS testing and verification. ITRI stated that this makes Taiwan the first recognized evaluation body outside the US, helping Taiwanese companies obtain certification and enter the US market. This will promote the international certification of Taiwan's drone industry, thereby expanding into international markets. ITRI explained that the Green UAS system is an important drone supply chain verification mechanism promoted by the US in recent years, focusing on product cybersecurity, supply chain transparency, and trustworthiness. It has gradually become an important threshold and cooperation standard in the international market. In January of this year, AUVSI and ITRI signed a cooperation agreement in Washington, D.C., USA, specializing in cybersecurity testing and technical evaluation, expanding penetration testing support in Taiwan, where authorized security personnel attempt to actually infiltrate the system to identify security vulnerabilities. ITRI Chairman Wu Cheng-chung pointed out that the official launch of the Green UAS drone evaluation body is a key starting point for Taiwan's drone industry to become a globally trusted supply chain. By obtaining the Green UAS authorization evaluation qualification from AUVSI, ITRI will focus on 'local verification, international integration' to help companies complete security evaluations domestically according to US standards, shortening the time to enter the international market. Chairman Wu stated that this authorization evaluation mechanism will bring three major values to the industry: helping companies align with international standards, strengthening the resilience of the trusted supply chain, and driving technological upgrades, prompting companies to systematically enhance their cybersecurity capabilities and product quality, showcasing Taiwan's drone industry as 'trustworthy, reliable, and cooperative' to the world.
