The Taiwan stock market opened with volatile declines, hitting an early low of 44,685 points, a drop of over 990 points, and breaking below the 45,000-point mark.
Heavyweight TSMC bucked the trend, rising by NT$20 to an early high of NT$2,405, an increase of 0.83%. MediaTek fell over 4%, Delta Electronics fell over 4%, Hon Hai Precision Industry fell over 3.5%, and ASE Technology Holding fell over 3.5%. In the memory sector, Nanya Technology and Winbond Electronics fell over 9%, while Macronix International fell over 6.5%.
Securities analysts pointed out that the Taiwan stock market is experiencing high-level volatility in the short term. Foreign investors' net short positions in Taiwan stock futures have reached a record high of nearly 70,000 contracts, and the positive deviation rate has reached a historical high, suggesting that investors should be cautious of sharp market fluctuations in the short term.
