(Central News Agency, Taipei, June 6) Taiwanese conductor Chuang Tung-chieh, based in Europe, will join the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra (NTSO) for a concert presenting Danish composer Carl Nielsen's "Concerto for Flute and Orchestra." The concert will also feature Chen Ting-wei, principal flutist of the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra from Norway, bringing the coolness of Nordic music to Taiwan's summer heat.
According to a press release from the NTSO, the concert will focus on Nordic music, performing Nielsen's "Flute Concerto" and Finnish composer Jean Sibelius's "Symphony No. 3 in C Major, Op. 52." The Flute Concerto, known for its dramatic tension and contrasting interplay between the soloist and orchestra, is considered one of the most challenging and representative classics in the flute repertoire.
Chuang won first prize at the Copenhagen Malko International Conductors' Competition in 2015, gaining significant attention in the European music scene. In recent years, he has collaborated with major orchestras including the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, and the Oslo Philharmonic. For the past five years, he has served as General Music Director of the Bochum Symphony Orchestra and Artistic Director of its concert hall in Germany.
Soloist Chen Ting-wei received his early musical education in Taiwan before pursuing advanced studies in Austria. Through rigorous academic training and international experience, he rose through the ranks of the European orchestral system to become principal flutist of the Oslo Philharmonic. The concert will also feature the world premiere of "Tea Mountain Capriccio" by Taiwanese-American composer Huang Szu-yu.
The "NTSO Chuang Tung-chieh, Chen Ting-wei and the NTSO" concert will be held on June 12 at the National Concert Hall in Taipei and on June 13 at the NTSO Concert Hall in Taichung. (Edited by Lee Ming-chung) 1150606
