(CNA, Seoul, 7th, Comprehensive Foreign Report) South Korean President Lee Jae-myung today nominated Han Sung-sook, the current Minister of SMEs and Startups, as the new Prime Minister. If the nomination is approved by the National Assembly, Han Sung-sook will become the second female Prime Minister in South Korean history.

The last time South Korea had a female prime minister was Han Myeong-sook, who served from 2006 to 2007.

Yonhap News Agency reported that Presidential Chief of Staff Kang Hoon-sik announced the news at a press conference, stating that Han Sung-sook, a former CEO of an information technology company and current Minister of SMEs and Startups, is the best person to complete the era's task of a great transformation in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and to promote national development.

Kang said, "Han Sung-sook has the ability to transform the South Korean economy, currently driven by the semiconductor boom and export growth, into a balanced growth that includes everyone, covering all levels such as small and medium-sized enterprises."
